After the huge success of Inside Out 2 in theaters around the world, it’s no surprise that Disney is planning more adventures from that universe. At D23, Disney announced Dream Productions, a spin-off series that takes place between the first and second Inside Out movies. Collider’s Taylor Gates confirmed this news from the event.
Disney also shared a brief synopsis of Dream Productions. The show is expected to be a workplace comedy, set in a part of Riley’s brain responsible for creating her dreams every night. Unlike the control center where Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), Anxiety (Maya Hawke), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) work, the new series will focus on the dream-making section.
‘Dream Productions’ Will Maintain ‘Inside Out’s Winning Run’
The title hints that Dream Productions might include some movie satire, as the workers create stories that play out in Riley’s mind while she sleeps. Disney hasn’t revealed if Riley’s core emotions will appear in the series, but they might show up occasionally when Riley wakes up or before she goes to bed.
The new series will be important to keep fans engaged with the franchise before a third movie is announced and produced. Inside Out 2 is currently the highest-grossing animated film ever and the biggest box office hit of 2024 so far. The first film showed that the Pixar title resonated with audiences, and Inside Out 2 demonstrated that the franchise’s potential is even greater than expected.
Like the two movies, Dream Productions will take viewers into the human brain to explore how decisions are made, how we respond to our environment, and how we develop our sense of self. With a more flexible setting, the series might include bold episodes that push the limits of animation to show the possibilities of dreams.
Disney has not yet provided more details about Dream Productions, such as the voice cast, episode count, or release date. Meanwhile, you can catch Inside Out 2 in theaters now.
