Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially released Super Limit-Breaking NEO, the biggest downloadable content pack yet for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. Available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the expansion significantly expands the anime fighter with new game modes, dozens of playable characters, fresh story content, and additional battle arenas. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of the DLC will arrive at a later date.
Developed by Spike Chunsoft, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO marked the return of the beloved Budokai Tenkaichi series when it launched in 2024. The game quickly earned praise for its massive roster, anime-accurate visuals, and fast-paced arena combat. With the arrival of Super Limit-Breaking NEO, Bandai Namco is delivering its largest content update so far, while also introducing a separate free update packed with new gameplay mechanics for all players.
Super Limit-Breaking NEO introduces a new solo mode and expands the roster
The headline feature of the new DLC is Limit Breaker Journey, a brand-new solo mode that allows players to select a favorite fighter and strengthen them through a series of increasingly difficult battles. As players progress, they can improve their character’s attributes and customize their growth, creating different combat builds depending on their preferred playstyle.
Beyond the new progression mode, the expansion also adds four Episode Battles, Extra Battles, and four brand-new stages, giving players more single-player content alongside additional battle locations.
The DLC also dramatically expands the game’s already extensive roster by adding 33 new playable characters spanning multiple eras of the Dragon Ball franchise.
The newly added fighters include classic characters from the original Dragon Ball such as Mercenary Tao, Grandpa Gohan, General Blue, Ma Junior, Chi-Chi, Demon King Piccolo, and Goku (World Tournament).

Fans of Dragon Ball Z can also play as Mighty Mask, Supreme Kai, Kid Uub, Zangya, Super Saiyan Bardock, Chilled, and several additional characters. The Dragon Ball GT lineup expands with Super 17, Vegeta (GT), Trunks (GT), Nuova Shenron, and Hell Fighter 17, while Dragon Ball Super receives new additions including Champa, Jaco, and Cheelai.
Free gameplay update adds new combat mechanics
Alongside the paid expansion, Bandai Namco has also rolled out a free update for every player that introduces two new gameplay systems designed to deepen combat.
The first mechanic, Sparking Boost, lets players consume a significant amount of Skill Stock while in Sparking mode. In return, fighters receive a powerful temporary attack boost, although it comes with a temporary reduction to certain stats, encouraging players to carefully balance risk and reward.
The second addition, Chain Blast, introduces a new team combo mechanic. After launching an opponent into the air, players can immediately switch to another teammate and continue the assault with a Blast attack, extending combos and opening up more strategic tag-team opportunities during battles.
The update also includes three additional stage variants, further increasing the variety of battle environments available in the game.
Bandai Namco described Super Limit-Breaking NEO as the largest DLC released for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO since the game’s launch, reinforcing the publisher’s ongoing support for the title.
