MGM+’s and Sky’s Domina season 2 is almost here, and that means that all the political intrigue and plotting told from the feminine perspective of Livia is back to tell us more about the life in Rome during imperial times.
This show, developed by Simon Burke debuted a couple of years ago, and with its sophomore season ready to roll, we’re going to present you with all the essential details you should need to know ahead of its premiere.
With an exceptional cinematographic style, direction, and well-scripted dialogues, Domina is the kind of show that you’d like to watch if you enjoyed shows and series like Rome, Game of Thrones, or movies like Gladiator.
Domina Season 2 Potential Plotlines
Gaius and Livia control Rome’s politics by the end of the first season. They were able to put their differences over the murder of Marcellus, Gaius’ nephew and successor, to rest. Naturally, the reconciliation has not gone over well with Octavia and Scribonia. The formidable pair has developed a large number of adversaries as they rose to the top.
The sophomore season will likely tell us about the fate of Gaius and Livia. Although they reign supreme in Rome, they’re not invincible. Since the series closely aligns with historical events, season two has ample material to delve into and explore.
After Augustus’s death in 14 AD, Tiberius, Livia’s son, is said to have become the emperor. We also know that Livia was involved in Julia Gauis’s expulsion from Rome and the subsequent events that changed the political climate in ancient Rome. So these historical events might be covered in the potential season 2.
Domina Season 1 Review
“Domina” is an eight-part series that follows the life and journey of Livia Drusilla, the wife of Roman Emperor Augustus Caesar. While there were some rough patches across the season, it was never dull or boring. I’d describe it as wildly entertaining, occasionally cheesy, and sometimes absurd.
I have to note that the performances of Nadia Parks and Kaja Smutniak, portray different ages of Livia Drusilla. Also, Matthew McNulty and Liam Cunningham’s roles are very good.
The show delves into the politics of ancient Rome, with various factions vying for power and control. If you ever saw “Game of Thrones”, in terms of political maneuvering and the manipulation of characters, the feeling is exactly the same.
Livia’s character embodies a remarkable defiance of the traditional role of Roman women. Her unwavering dedication is aimed at effecting change and revitalizing Rome as a republic. Furthermore, the show delves into the multifaceted perspectives and diverse roles of women in ancient Rome.
Domina Cast
