Diamond Toons has announced Ramayana Manga Saga, a new adaptation of India’s celebrated epic that uses Japanese manga-inspired artwork to introduce the story to younger audiences. The project launches under the publisher’s Diamond Indic Manga initiative, which aims to present Indian mythology and cultural heritage through contemporary visual storytelling.

Announced on November 2, 2026, the collection consists of three black-and-white manga volumes designed for readers aged 12 and above. Diamond Toons is also releasing a separate full-colour edition for children aged five to 10, offering a more accessible introduction to the characters and events of the Ramayana.

The launch also marks a distribution partnership between Diamond Toons and India Today Group. By combining manga-inspired illustrations with traditional retail, e-commerce, and planned quick-commerce distribution, the publisher hopes to make the epic more accessible to readers familiar with Japanese manga, anime, and Korean webtoons.

Ramayana Manga Saga Covers the Epic Across Three Volumes

The main Ramayana Manga Saga trilogy follows the central events of the epic across three books. Each volume focuses on a different stage of Rama’s journey, allowing readers to experience the story through dramatic sequences and expressive character illustrations.

The first book, Ramayana Manga, Volume 1: The Crown and the Exile, introduces Rama’s early life, his marriage to Sita, and his decision to enter exile to honour his father’s promise.

The second volume, The Search for Sita, follows Ravana’s abduction of Sita and Rama’s efforts to find her. It also explores Hanuman’s journey to Lanka, one of the epic’s major turning points.

The final instalment, The War of Dharma, focuses on the confrontation between Rama and Ravana, highlighting themes of courage, sacrifice, leadership, and responsibility. The three books will also be available together as a collectible box set.

Diamond Toons Introduces a Separate Ramayana Edition for Children

Alongside the main trilogy, Diamond Toons is introducing Ramayana Junior: The Great Adventure of Rama. This 80-page, full-colour edition is designed specifically for children aged five to 10.

Unlike the black-and-white trilogy, the Junior edition uses simpler storytelling, colourful illustrations, and expressive character designs to introduce younger readers to Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman.

Diamond Toons Director Manish Verma explained the creative motivation behind the initiative: “Our idea is simple: keep the stories rooted in India, but present them in a visual language that connects with today’s generation.”

India Today Group Partners With Diamond Toons for Distribution

The publishing initiative also introduces a modern distribution strategy through Diamond Toons’ partnership with India Today Group.

Manoj Sharma, CEO of Magazines at India Today Group, said the partnership would help connect the three-volume series with a new generation of readers.

The project also forms part of Diamond Toons’ exploration of generative AI in creative publishing, supported by creative direction and editorial development.

Diamond Toons belongs to the Diamond Group of Publications, a publishing company with a history dating back to 1948. It is known for Indian comic characters such as Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, Billoo, and Pinki. Through Diamond Indic Manga, the publisher is now exploring manga-inspired formats to bring Indian mythology and literature to younger audiences.

Publication pricing and wider retail availability for the new Ramayana editions are expected to be announced separately.
