Destined is a drama that has been catching the eyes and heat since its premiere. Its original title is Chang Feng Duis and is inspired by the novel of the same name written by Mo Shu Bai. This Chinese drama premiered on 18 June 2023.
Five episodes were released on the premiere itself, followed by two episodes every day. This drama stars Bai Jing Ting as the male lead named Gu Jiusi. Opposite him is the female lead Song Yi playing his love interest Liu Yuru.
The spark for this drama is also because of the dating rumors about the main character that started to circulate back in 2021, wanting viewers to experience their chemistry. It will be safe to say that it did not disappoint because it attained a heat index of 10000 on its streaming platform iQIYI within just 41 hours of its premiere, becoming the ninth drama to attain this heat index.
The two years that went to its making seem fruitful as the love it received has earned it a premiere date on channel CCTV-8. So without dragging the suspense any further, let’s break down all the essential details you need to know about the Chinese Drama Destined.
This historical romance drama revolves around Liu Yuru, a girl who has been unlucky in life. Her ailing mother and careless father made her childhood full of miseries.
If this was not enough, her father left them uncared for to pursue his new lady love. So Liu Yuru has to live as a servant despite being the daughter of a rich cloth merchant.
Her stepmother and stepsisters leave no opportunity to insult her. The obedient Yuru hopes for a happy marriage as the only escape from her difficulties, but life has other plans. She is “accidentally” married to the local rich playboy Gu Jiusi.
Even to her dislike, she starts her new life and slowly finds a different side of her husband. Meanwhile, she learns business from her mother-in-law.
Their happy lives are soon shaken by the troublesome Yangzhou commander as he turns despotic, and the Gu family has to leave everything behind to start anew. This tale is of two haters turned lovers who are destined to mutually build a better empire.
Destined Episode 20 Recap
In the previous episodes, we see that Gu Jiusi trades all his wealth and gets the job of a Yamen runner to serve people better. He wishes to grow step by step to the position of an official to earn it and understand better.
Gu Jiusi and Liu Yuru also share a wholesome meal feeding each other. Liu also takes the next step in her rouge-selling business by opening a cosmetics shop named Huarong Cosmetic Shop.
Episode 20 begins with a bittersweet note. Liu waits for customers, but no one arrives. On the other hand, Gu Jiusi is happy to get his first salary and decides to buy something for Liu. When he returns home with the gift, it is a Huarong Rouge that he bought.
Liu gets upset and shares the truth about her low sales and how one of the few things sold was bought by her husband. She mentions Mrs. Zhou, who could be a potential buyer but does not hope for her to come to a small shop. Later, Mrs.
Zhou arrives with her friends to buy 46 sets. It is revealed that Gu also persuades Mrs. Zhou’s son to send his mother and friends to Liu’s Shop. The boosted sales affect her business rival Mr. Zhao who plans to degrade her image falsely.
He sends a woman who claims that Huarong Rouge ruined her daughter’s face, but Liu proves her wrong. When she starts badmouthing, Liu gives her a beating with a broom which is witnessed by Gu.
Liu has an emotional breakdown thinking her behavior embarrassed Gu, but the latter finds it cute and asks her to always fight for herself fiercely.
Later Mr. Fan arrives and asks why Gu alone transported six armament carts and punishes everyone for bullying Gu, his friend. Feeling humiliated, the fellows decide to teach Gu a lesson. Does the gang deliver a successful beating? Find out in the next episode.
