Independent action title Denshattack is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on July 15, 2026, but players hoping for a version on the original Nintendo Switch will be left disappointed.
According to Undercoders, the decision wasn’t made lightly, with the studio believing Nintendo’s new hardware was the better fit for the game’s fast-paced gameplay and visual ambitions.
The comments came during an interview with Nintendo Everything, where game director David Jaumandreu discussed the development process and the team’s platform strategy.
Nintendo Switch 2 Offered the Experience the Team Wanted
Jaumandreu explained that Undercoders always intended to release Denshattack on a Nintendo platform. However, when development began, the Nintendo Switch 2 had not yet been officially announced, making long-term planning difficult.
After Nintendo unveiled the new console, the studio immediately worked with its publisher to obtain development approval. Although acquiring development kits took time because of the busy launch period, the team eventually brought the project to Nintendo Switch 2.
Discussing why the original Switch version never materialized, Jaumandreu said,
“We didn’t want to constrain ourselves to a certain set of hardware specs,” adding that the game’s “visuals, juiciness, speed and, obviously, constant high framerate”
were essential to the experience. Those priorities ultimately made Nintendo Switch 2 the ideal platform.

The decision wasn’t made by developers unfamiliar with Nintendo hardware. Undercoders previously released titles such as Mail Mole and Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara on the original Switch, giving the team firsthand experience with the platform’s capabilities.
While a Switch 1 version was considered during development, Jaumandreu said the studio ultimately chose to prioritize the game’s intended performance rather than scale it back to fit older hardware. With Denshattack arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 this week, the developers believe players will experience the game exactly as it was designed.
