Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has reportedly sold 2.5 million copies across PlayStation 5 and PC, according to estimates from Alinea Analytics. The market research firm estimates that the game has generated approximately $170 million in revenue across both platforms, giving a clearer picture of the commercial performance of Hideo Kojima’s latest project.
The figures arrive shortly after Sony reportedly stepped away from publishing Kojima Productions’ Physint, making Death Stranding 2’s performance particularly relevant to discussions surrounding the partnership. However, the available sales and revenue figures are estimates rather than official numbers released by Sony or Kojima Productions.
Death Stranding 2’s PS5 Sales Lead Its Overall Performance
According to Alinea Analytics’ estimates, Death Stranding 2 has sold approximately 1.8 million copies on PlayStation, compared with 700,000 copies on Steam. The game launched exclusively on PS5 in June 2025 before reaching PC in March 2026, with Kojima Productions and Nixxes adding several PC-specific technical features for the later release.
The estimated $170 million revenue figure also shows how important the PlayStation audience has been to the game’s performance. Alinea estimates that roughly $129 million of the revenue came from PlayStation, with around 65% of that amount generated during the first two months after launch.

The game’s sales momentum reportedly slowed considerably after its initial release window. Alinea estimates that around one million copies were sold on PlayStation during the first two months, while the Steam version reached approximately 550,000 copies during its first two months.
For comparison, the original Death Stranding has reportedly reached around five million copies over its lifetime and generated approximately $243 million in revenue, according to Alinea’s estimates. That means the sequel has generated substantial revenue, but its current commercial performance remains below the trajectory of its predecessor.
Death Stranding 2 remains available on both PS5 and PC, with the PC version launching on March 19, 2026. Kojima Productions has also continued supporting the game with additional content and features, including the To The Wilder difficulty mode, VR training content and expanded photo mode options.
The latest figures therefore present a mixed commercial picture for Death Stranding 2. Reaching 2.5 million copies and an estimated $170 million in revenue represents a significant audience for a major single-player release, but the slower sales after launch could also help explain why Sony is becoming more selective about the large-scale projects it backs.
