‘Fuller House’ fame Dave Coulier launched the podcast ‘Full House Rewind.’ They played the iconic role of Joey Gladstone on Full House and Fuller House sitcom. It also includes a behind-the-scenes scoop of all 192 episodes.
In a recent interview, Dave expressed his bonding with the whole cast and reacted to recent Candace Cameron Bure’s ‘Miss Benny’ drama, and he also remembered his friend, and co-star, Bob Saget.
The actor revealed that he ‘never watched Full House,’ but there is a reason why Dave is ready to change that. He thinks the world is no longer a simple happy place, and he thinks people yearn for it.
He further added that he “really wanted to do a homage to the fans who have told us(referring to the whole cast) over the ages how much they love ‘Full House’ and how much it meant to them, in many cases. It not only shaped their childhood but also improved their childhood.
So I (Dave) wanted to give it back by going over all of these episodes again and just kind of share with the fans; it is a down memory lane for him because lots of things in brand new.”
Dave Coulier says “Full House” cast ‘genuine’ bond is the secret sauce for the show.
Full House from 1987 and its spin-off Fuller House by Netflix, which aired for four years (2016-2020). The cast includes John Stamos as Jesse Katsopolis, Lori Loughlin as Becky Katsopolis, Bure as D.J. Tanner, Andrea Barber as Kimmy Gibbler, Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Tanner, and late actor Bob Saget as Danny Tanner. Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen, who was supposed to play Michelle Tanner but didn’t cast for the spin-off.
Viewers loved this show, and Dave believes the secret sauce, so to speak, is the cast’s “genuine” bonding with each. Dave also shared that he thinks “people could feel that we(cast) really loved each other and still do. You can’t fake it. That’s really hard to manufacture.”
The comedian said that “We(Full House cast) text on birthdays, we say congratulations for things and ask each other for help.” Collier also said that “It’s a really wonderful family; I (Dave) don’t think any of us in the very beginning expected that to happen for the rest of our lives. So, I keep in touch with everybody (referring to the Full House cast)”. He also said that his “best girlfriend is Lori.”
The actor also spoke about Miss Benny’s controversies which made headlines and insinuated Candace Cameron Bure needed her queer role to be removed from the show. For context, Miss Benny, who made the guest appearance as “Casey” on Fuller House, Bure, did comment in the past on the anti-LQBT community. Although Candace strongly denied Miss Benny’s allegations.
Coulier actually directed Miss Benny’s episode called “The Prom.” The episode was also nominated for GLAAD in 2019. Dave turned off comments on Bruce’s allegations related to Miss Benny’s viral TikTok and praised Candace’s leadership role on the set of Revival.
Coulier also recalled one of the toughest times for him and the whole cast when they lost Bob Saget in 2022. Earlier in the year, Bob died unexpectedly after accidentally banging his head alone in an Orlando hotel room. The actor said it still “It’s really hard” without Bob Saget. He met Bob when they were both struggling comics, and the actor was only 18 years old.
Both Dave and Bob first connected in Detroit, where Saget was performing at a small club. Coulier remembers that the late actor “blew the room off.” The Full House actor said that “I(Dave Coulier) just couldn’t take my eyes off of him and thought that’s how good I wanted to be. He(Bob Saget) was so impressive, funny, witty, and so polished.”
At that, Saget gave him his number and said to reach out should the comic land in Los Angeles. The actor also recalled that he still had the piece of paper with Bob’s number on it that he jotted down that night. It’s a scrapbook.
Coulier finally decided and went to California and ended up at Saget’s place. And both were cast in Full House (1987), and the rest is history! Dave laughingly said that “It was weird how art imitated life when I(Dave Coulier) moved into Danny Tanner’s house and slept in the alcove. ”
Overall, the debut first episode on the podcast is Full House Rewind, Featuring David Coulier, and it is dedicated to Saget. The series also has some cameos from some people who are all in the Full House world. Stamos is slated to appear as creator Jeff Franklin and feature guests like Josh Peck and Marla Sokoloff.
Coulier teases that “it is more of a television show than a podcast, and it is very visual.” He also hopes that fans are left feeling happy after watching this podcast. According to him, creating the world within the world of ‘Full House’ has been so much fun.
