Coming back to Daniel Padilla’s controversy, the Filipino actor was criticized following his appearance at an award show – Asia Artist Awards 2023. What did he do? Many people wondered if Daniel had any personal hatred or dislike towards Korean people. What do you think? Here is everything we know.
Daniel Padilla Sparks Controversy For His Behaviour About Koreans
Well, the Asia Artist Awards 2023 was held on 14 December at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. Daniel Padilla won the AAA FABULOUS AWARD, and the crowd appreciated him a lot until he gave his acceptance speech. He laughed off the mic suddenly just before saying “Annyeong” to the audience. To the newbies, “Annyeong” is a Korean word for “hey.”
It triggered negative reactions from the fans, especially the Korean people. Daniel Padilla’s gesture made fans wonder if he mocked them.
People were very much disappointed and took the discussion on social media platforms. That particular clip of Daniel Padilla’s acceptance speech went viral. One person wrote, “Oh, but like, Daniel Padilla’s mocking “Annyeong” and the way he laughed after and was so embarrassed was so rude like uhm.” Another said, “Those k-artists are learning the proper way to say Filipino phrases, yet they are not giving the bare minimum on how to properly say formal greetings to the Koreans.”
On the other hand, some fans defended Daniel Padilla, stating that he didn’t mock the Koreans or their way of greeting. The alleged fan cited that laughing doesn’t always equate to mocking. It is true, though. There are times when we laugh to express our anxiety or even nervousness. In other words, the actor had some of his fans who took his side and shared that he didn’t intend to disrespect Korean people.
Well, Daniel Padilla’s acceptance speech started with, “I will work harder to receive more awards and become a greater singer.” It was very short and simple. People didn’t like the way he said that Korean word and some also claimed that he could have done better research and opted for a different way to greet.
