Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka has warned fans that they should not expect popular characters to survive in Danganronpa 2×2. Speaking about the game’s new Slayhem scenario, Kodaka confirmed that character popularity will not influence who lives or dies, staying true to the series’ unpredictable storytelling.

In an interview with RPG Site, Kodaka explained that the development team has no intention of protecting fan-favorite characters. He stated,

“It doesn’t matter if a character is popular or not, I will kill them off anyway.”

He added that the new Slayhem mode will feature different cases and events, allowing players to see sides of returning characters that were not explored in the original story.

Kodaka also made a lighthearted request to fans, saying,

“Please, regardless of who ends up getting killed, don’t send me hate mail.”

Danganronpa 2×2 includes both the original storyline and a brand-new scenario. The game was originally planned for a 2026 release but was delayed and is now scheduled to launch in 2027 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with Spike Chunsoft promising more details as development continues.
