As the newest season of Dancing with the Stars begins, the competitors are already mesmerizing the audience with their abilities. Tuesday night’s premiere of “Dancing With the Stars” season 32 was shown on ABC, just two days after a tentative agreement with the Writers Guild of America was reached. The new autumnal television season has begun.
This is the first season following the death of chief judge Len Goodman. The show’s hosts, Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribiero, declared at the start of the broadcast that the competitors would now be competing for the “Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy,” which bears his name.
Disney just celebrated its 100th anniversary in Season 32. Eleven surviving celebrities and professional dancers performed songs from the soundtracks of Disney’s most beloved films on a night honoring a century of Disney enchantment.
Recap
The title for the episode was “Most Memorable Year.” The most recent celebrity to be eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars” season 32 was Mira Sorvino. After a moving modern routine to Cyndi Lauper’s song “Time After Time,” which featured Sorvino’s dancer daughter Mattea, the Oscar-winning actress and her partner Gleb Savchenko were eliminated.
The scene brought up memories of the magnificent dance that Sorvino, Lisa Kudrow, and Alan Cumming performed in the 1997 film “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.” Choosing 2004 as the theme for “Most Memorable Year,” Sorvino described being a mother as her “greatest, most cherished role.” Her eldest child was born in that year.
Despite receiving a 22 out of 30 for their dance, Sorvino and Savchenko were unable to salvage their performance. When Sorvino looked back on her time on the show, she commented, “It’s been incredible.”
Many of my dreams have come true, and for that, I am truly thankful. Honoring the late “Dancing with the Stars” head judge Len Goodman, who passed away in April at the age of 78 after leaving the show at the conclusion of the previous season, was the first event of the evening.
A special dance set to the tune “Moon River” by Henry Mancini brought back former professionals Kym Johnson, Anna Trebunskaya, Karina Smirnoff, Edyta Sliwinska, Tony Dovolani, Louis van Amstel, Maks Chmerkovskiy, and Mark Ballas to the ballroom.
Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson choreographed the dance, which also included Derek and Julianne Hough, as well as professionals from the current season. Sue, Goodman’s devoted wife, was present for the event. Following the show, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, two of Goodman’s fellow judges, shared a heartfelt moment.
Together with their professional partners Artem Chigvintsev and Val Chmerkovskiy, Charity Lawson, a former “Bachelorette” cast member, and Xochitl Gomez, a Marvel star, dominated the top of the pack this week, each scoring a 28 out of 30, which is the first 10-point score of the season.
During her modern routine to Selena Gomez’s “Lose You to Love Me,” Lawson dazzled the audience. The reality star said that her favorite year was 2022, the year she was a Bachelorette and fell in love with both Dotun Olubeko and herself.
