Danai Gurira, star of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, talked about what it was like to have more responsibilities as executive producer on the new series alongside co-star Andrew Lincoln.
After being taken prisoner by the CRM, Rick will make a comeback in the upcoming spinoff, accompanied by Michonne in her attempts to free him. It was previously revealed that the two stars of the show are executive producers of the endeavour.
During the premiere of The Ones Who Live, Gurira talked with Screen Rant about her and Lincoln’s experiences playing larger roles in the Rick and Michonne spinoff. The actor hinted at her involvement in authoring an episode of the program while discussing how AMC gave priority to the duo’s vision for it. Check out what Gurira had to say below:
Why Danai Gurira & Andrew Lincoln’s Vision Is Vital For The Ones Who Live
The wonderful thing was that Andrew Lincoln and I had very explicit communication from the network’s leadership that this was yours. We will support you in realizing your goal, so you guys just do what you have to do. And that sounds fantastic! That’s what we were so eager to accomplish.
It was an extremely demanding job being an executive producer on The Ones Who Live. We worked extremely hard and continuously ran at full capacity. It was a lot of pistons turning all the time since I also created an episode that [Scott] Gimple left me to show run. We collaborated on everything and kept an eye on everything, including anything you could think of.
The Ones Who Live started as a trilogy of films that followed Rick when the CRM captured him. Later on, the plot shifted to include both Rick and Michonne. As a result, their tale will now be presented throughout six seasons, with the possibility of more in the future.
It makes it natural that both actors would be part of the process of their return, as this show will include both characters’ reappearance after a hiatus of several years from the main series.
In addition, Gurira is penning episode 4, which suggests that this will be a significant turning point in the show’s narrative. She and Lincoln will be able to delve further into the mysteries of the CRM while crafting a narrative that is appropriate for the characters they play because of their extensive involvement in the series’ production.
This implies that the main actors will both approve of a suitable continuation for Rick and Michonne. Though the plot of The Ones Who Live is yet unknown, Rick and Michonne’s reunion will undoubtedly play a significant role in the show.
Since Gurira and Lincoln are both heavily involved in the program, fans will probably be as satisfied with the pair’s outcome as the actors are. It is comforting to know that the main actors played such a significant role in bringing the series to life, even though there are still many unanswered questions about their plot.
