I don’t think Eugene is interested in becoming the patriarch of the Leonhart family. The only thing that matters to Eugene is finding out about what happened after he died as Hamel. There are too many mysteries that he wants to unfold, and he can’t do it by becoming the patriarch since it will put too much load on him.

It is just me, or is the quality of the chapter just upscaled in this chapter? Well, Damn Reincarnation Manhwa is known to have the best art style, but in chapter 68, it got even better. Eventually, there is some build-up to Vermouth specifically looking for Hamel before he ever even became a famous Mercenary in the past, and when he meets Hamel, he finally whispers, “Found you.”

The current translation I just read hasn’t completed the mystery yet, but there’s a strong implication that Hamel/Eugene was someone who was considered the War God in a previous life and that he may have been Vermouth’s plan on actually defeating the Demon King of Destruction.
