Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 is taking its connection to Cyberpunk 2077 a step further by using the game’s world as a reference for the anime’s locations. Studio Trigger reportedly explored Night City with a virtual camera to find specific streets, buildings, and landmarks that could be incorporated into the new season.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Edgerunners creator and showrunner Bartosz Sztybor explained that the animation team knows Night City so well that he does not need to name specific locations in his scripts.

STUDIO TRIGGER EXPLORED NIGHT CITY TO FIND ANIME LOCATIONS

Sztybor praised Studio Trigger’s familiarity with the game, explaining that its artists are passionate fans who understand Night City’s layout better than he does.

According to the creator, director Kai Ikarashi explored the city using a virtual camera, searching for locations that matched the story’s requirements. Sztybor explained that he deliberately leaves place names out of his scripts because he trusts the team to find suitable locations independently.

He described the process as Ikarashi behaving like Roman, a camera-wielding character introduced in the second season. This approach allows the anime to incorporate recognizable locations from the game without forcing the story around predetermined landmarks.

The first season featured familiar Night City landmarks, including the Afterlife, Tom’s Diner, and Megabuilding H4. The new production approach could allow Season 2 to recreate even more precise locations, giving players opportunities to recognize individual streets and storefronts from their time exploring the game.

The virtual-camera method also helps Studio Trigger connect the anime’s visual storytelling with the world established by CD Projekt Red. Rather than relying solely on reference images, the team can explore the game’s environments directly and choose settings that suit individual scenes.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 20, 2026, introducing new characters Roman, Talia, Weak Kingsley, and D. The series continues to expand the Cyberpunk universe through a new story set in Night City’s dangerous streets.
