Pearl Abyss has announced that Crimson Desert will be featured at CEDEC 2026, Japan’s largest game developer conference, where the studio will offer an in-depth look at the development process behind its acclaimed open-world action RPG. The invitation places the game alongside several high-profile industry presentations at one of the most influential events for game creators.
Organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), CEDEC 2026 will be held from July 22 to July 24 at Pacifico Yokohama North in Yokohama, Japan. This year’s conference is centered around the theme “Co-Create,” highlighting collaboration and knowledge sharing across the games industry.
Pearl Abyss to explain how Crimson Desert’s open world was built
Pearl Abyss’ invited session will be led by Lead Game Designers Doo Seung-bin and Kim Hyun-kyum, who will present “Crimson Desert: Building a Large-Scale Open World Development Process.” The lecture will explore the challenges of creating the game’s expansive world and explain how the development team improved production efficiency, iteration workflows, and collaboration throughout the project.

According to Pearl Abyss, the presentation will also share practical development techniques gained while managing a large-scale AAA production, offering valuable insights for fellow developers attending the conference.
CEDEC 2026 will feature more than 200 sessions covering game development, technology, and industry trends. Alongside Crimson Desert, attendees can expect presentations related to titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, Silent Hill, and Ninja Gaiden 4, as well as discussions on topics including generative AI, VTubers, and game industry recruitment.
Powered by Pearl Abyss’ proprietary BlackSpace Engine, Crimson Desert is the company’s flagship single-player open-world action-adventure title. Its inclusion at CEDEC 2026 reflects the industry’s interest in the technology and development practices behind one of Korea’s most ambitious AAA games.
