Coyote vs. Acme Passes $40 Million Worldwide After Warner Bros. Nearly Shelved the Movie

Coyote vs. Acme has crossed a major box office milestone less than two weeks into its theatrical release, giving the once-shelved Looney Tunes movie another reason to celebrate. The film has now earned more than $40 million worldwide, demonstrating that audiences have continued supporting the project after its controversial journey to theaters.

Coyote vs. Acme has grossed approximately $40.47 million worldwide, including $34.47 million domestically and nearly $6 million internationally. The movie opened in theaters on August 28 after Ketchup Entertainment acquired its distribution rights from Warner Bros.

Coyote vs. Acme Keeps Building Momentum

The milestone is particularly notable because Warner Bros. Discovery originally planned to shelve the completed movie in 2023 as a tax write-off. The decision sparked significant backlash, eventually allowing the filmmakers to seek another distributor. Ketchup Entertainment ultimately acquired the film for a reported $50 million, giving the Wile E. Coyote comedy a theatrical release.

The movie also held up well during its second weekend. It generated roughly $11.97 million domestically, placing third at the weekend box office behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey.

That performance represents only a moderate decline from its opening weekend, suggesting that positive audience response is helping the film maintain momentum. Coyote vs. Acme has also benefited from strong reviews, with audiences responding positively to its combination of live-action comedy and classic Looney Tunes animation.

Directed by Dave Green, the movie stars Will Forte, John Cena and Lana Condor, with Eric Bauza providing the voice of Wile E. Coyote. The story follows the famously unlucky coyote as he teams up with a lawyer to take Acme Corporation to court over the products that repeatedly ruin his attempts to catch the Road Runner.

While the film has not yet recovered the reported $50 million acquisition price through its worldwide theatrical gross alone, its continued performance gives the once-rejected movie a much stronger theatrical outcome than its original fate suggested.
