Israeli special forces conducted a covert operation by infiltrating the Ibn Sina hospital in Jenin, leading to the killing of three Palestinian men. The commandos, disguised as civilians and medical staff, were seen in CCTV footage storming the hospital corridor with assault weapons.
While Hamas identified the victims as Jenin Brigades fighters, Israel claimed they were terrorists associated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The operation was praised by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who shared the footage on social media.
Hamas’s military wing, the Al Qassam Brigades, confirmed one of the slain men, Mohammed Jalamneh, as their member. They condemned the attack by Israeli special forces and referred to the victims as “fighting martyrs.” The Ibn Sina hospital disclosed that one of the casualties, Basil Al-Ghazawi, was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a previous incident.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health denounced the operation and criticized the targeting of a health center, calling for international protection for medical facilities and emergency crews. The ministry emphasized that such actions violated international law, which provides special protection for civilian sites, including hospitals.
The incident exacerbated tensions in the region, with conflicting narratives emerging from Israeli and Palestinian sources. The Palestinian side condemned the covert raid, while Israel defended it as a necessary operation against individuals involved in “significant terrorist activity.”
The clash of perspectives reflects the ongoing challenges in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, contributing to heightened animosity between the two sides. The covert nature of the operation further complicates an already volatile situation, raising concerns about potential escalations and the impact on regional stability.
