Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is approaching a major box-office milestone, with the Universal Pictures epic now within striking distance of Deadpool & Wolverine’s record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
After 31 days in theaters, The Odyssey has earned approximately $1.29 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. That puts Nolan’s film about $47 million behind Deadpool & Wolverine, which finished its theatrical run with around $1.34 billion globally.
The Odyssey Has Built a Strong Global Box Office
The Odyssey opened in theaters on July 17, 2026, earning approximately $123.5 million domestically during its first weekend. Its North American total has since reached about $504.7 million, while international markets have contributed another $786.2 million.
That international performance could prove crucial as The Odyssey attempts to overtake Marvel’s previous record holder. Around 60.9% of the film’s worldwide earnings have come from outside North America, giving it a stronger international share than Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Marvel sequel earned approximately $636.7 million domestically and $701.3 million internationally during its 2024 theatrical run. By comparison, The Odyssey has continued to maintain strong theatrical momentum despite its nearly three-hour runtime.
The film also has another advantage in its race toward profitability. The Odyssey reportedly carries a production budget of around $250 million, considerably below the reported combined production and marketing costs associated with Deadpool & Wolverine.
With the gap between the two films now relatively small, The Odyssey could soon claim the R-rated box-office crown. Its sustained performance in international markets will likely determine how quickly Nolan’s epic reaches the record.
