Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is getting even more time on IMAX 70mm screens as strong audience demand continues weeks after its theatrical release. The film will now remain available in the premium format through September 30, 2026, extending its historic 70mm run to 11 weeks.
The Odyssey has earned $457 million globally from IMAX screenings, making it the highest-grossing IMAX release ever. The film has also generated approximately $66 million from IMAX 70mm screenings, despite the format being available at only 41 locations worldwide.
The Odyssey Keeps Breaking Box Office Records
The extension comes as The Odyssey continues its remarkable worldwide theatrical run. Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic has now surpassed $1.55 billion globally, making it the director’s highest-grossing movie and the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.
The IMAX performance is particularly significant because The Odyssey is the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Nolan has long championed large-format theatrical presentation, and the film’s continued 70mm demand has given audiences additional opportunities to experience the movie in the format associated with his filmmaking style.
The 70mm screenings have earned around $1.6 million per location on average, an extraordinary result considering the limited number of theaters equipped for the format. With additional showtimes now scheduled through September 30, fans who missed earlier screenings will have another opportunity to see Nolan’s epic on the largest possible film presentation.
