Christopher Judge Confirms the Next God of War After Laufey Will Be Kratos-Led: “We Are Going to Roll Into the Next Kratos Game”

Kratos may be stepping aside for the next mainline God of War adventure, but his journey is far from over. Christopher Judge, the actor who has portrayed Kratos since God of War (2018), has confirmed that the character will return in another game after God of War Laufey.

The confirmation came during a convention panel where Judge discussed the future of the franchise and was asked which mythology he would like to see explored next. While he expressed interest in seeing Kratos encounter Egyptian gods, his biggest revelation was that another Kratos-led game is planned after Laufey.

“I don’t know what is being done with the Faye game, but after the Faye game we are going to roll into the next Kratos game,”

Judge said during the panel.

The comment provides one of the clearest indications yet that Kratos is not being retired despite God of War Laufey shifting the spotlight to his late wife, Faye.

Christopher Judge Confirms Kratos Will Return After God of War Laufey

Sony Santa Monica officially announced God of War Laufey in June 2026, revealing that Faye will take the lead role in the next major entry. The game follows Faye after her death as she awakens in the Everywhen, a mysterious afterlife where gods and creatures from different mythologies coexist.

The decision to move away from Kratos initially raised questions about whether Santa Monica Studio was preparing to move beyond the character following God of War Ragnarök. Judge’s latest comments appear to answer that question.

According to Judge, the studio’s next Kratos game will follow Laufey. However, he did not reveal when that project will be released, what mythology it will explore or whether it will directly continue the events of Ragnarök. That leaves the direction of Kratos’ next adventure largely unknown.

Judge was also asked which mythology he would like the God of War franchise to tackle next. His answer pointed toward Egypt, a setting that has been frequently discussed by fans since the series moved from Greek mythology into the Norse world.

The actor has previously spent years portraying Kratos as the character expanded from a revenge-driven Greek warrior into a more restrained father. An Egyptian setting could therefore provide another major shift in the world surrounding him, although Judge’s preference does not confirm that Santa Monica Studio is actually developing an Egyptian God of War game. For now, the studio has not revealed the setting of the next Kratos-led title.

God of War Laufey Comes First

Before Kratos returns, players will get to experience Faye’s story in God of War Laufey. Santa Monica Studio describes the game as the next chapter in the franchise, with Faye travelling through the Everywhen while attempting to protect the people she loves.

The studio has also emphasized that Faye’s combat will be substantially different from Kratos’. She can move between ground and air without interrupting combat, while her Golden Hand abilities allow her to manipulate the souls of enemies. The game is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Meanwhile, Santa Monica Studio is also working on a remake of the original Greek God of War trilogy, although that project is still in its early development stages.

Judge’s confirmation therefore gives God of War fans a clearer picture of what lies ahead. Laufey will introduce a new playable hero and expand the franchise’s mythology, while Kratos appears set to return for another major chapter afterward.

Exactly where that chapter will take him remains one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the future of God of War.
