The manga developed a competitive relationship between these two in the last chapter in the name of sports and not the main girl. A breath of fresh air since it means that we will get to see the characters be expanded on further.
Manga is beyond the point of petty love between love rivals and goes into more complicated stories. This is also one of the reasons why the manga’s romance genre is something of a novelty to read, as there is always something nice.

Chiisai Boku no Haru Chapter 13 started with a bit of a flashback. Not for the MC but for his love rival and teammate Taiyou, the man who seems to have it all. He used to be the source of insecurity for MC, but in the last chapter, he didn’t show any ounce of it.
If anything, Souta was treated with the sportsmanship and respect you would expect from someone of a high caliber. While it was nice to see Souta be the big man at heart, his character is a little inconsistent so far.
Moreover, the art style of the story is also sporadic, which appears it confusing at times as it is hard to judge the quality of the manga.
However, this sporadic nature hasn’t hindered the quality of the manga in any form. It is a bit of a joke between the new readers for seeing such variation but nothing more than that.
As for character development, it would be nice if the author decides to keep the story beats they want to aim for.

Chiisai Boku no Haru Chapter 14 should see the story from Souta’s perspective once again, as the last chapter focused on Taiyou and his complications.
The good-looking star athlete has a lot going on than just being eye candy and having a crush on his childhood friend.
This is good; it gives him agency and something to look out for the readers in the story, as he will have character growth too.
Character growth is the most vital part of the high school sports genre. If that isn’t done right or not done at all, the story will be a miss. Meanwhile, this story will have to figure out its rhythm for that, too, as Souta has been inconsistent.
Maybe he will be fleshed out sooner than later, but his sporadic characterization sure makes things difficult at times.
