Denji, a young guy living in abject poverty, is helping Chainsaw Devil and Pochita, his dog, pay off his late father’s debt to the criminal underworld by acting as a Devil Hunter. Denji is killed by the yakuza when they betray him in exchange for a deal with the Zombie Devil.
In exchange for Denji showing Pochita his dreams, Pochita concludes a deal with him and becomes a human-demon hybrid. Denji transforms into Chainsaw Man after killing the yakuza by pulling a reserve chute in his chest. After that, Makima and his Public Safety Division squad of government Devil Hunters contact him and persuade him to enlist in their ranks.
Denji enters Public Safety and teams up with Aki Hayakawa, a self-destructive Devil Hunter, and Power, the Blood Fiend, after becoming charmed by her friendliness and good looks. If Denji kills the Gun Devil, the culprit of the largest atrocity in human history, Makima will do anything for him.
After a few operations, Samurai Sword, an angry yakuza who appears to be associated with the Gun Devil and is a hybrid of the Katana Devil, appears. He assaults the Section with his accomplice Akane Sawatari, who entered into an agreement with the Snake Devil.
Despite Kobeni Higashiyama, a devil hunter, and Makima repelling the assault, the Division sacrifices many personnel in the assault, including Kobeni’s buddy Hirokazu Arai and Aki’s master Himeno.
Denji and Power are educated to equal them by the expert Devil-hunter Kishibe, who has mistrust for Makima, while Aki signs a deal with the Future Devil, who predicts a “terrible demise” for him.
