Capcom has expressed confidence in Onimusha: Way of the Sword’s Nintendo Switch 2 version, with producer Akihito Kadowaki saying players may not even notice the difference compared to the PS5 release during normal gameplay.

In an interview with Famitsu, Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei discussed the upcoming Switch 2 version after the Japanese publication noted that it felt comparable to the PS5 edition. Kadowaki revealed that Capcom only began working on the Switch 2 port partway through development, but the team’s early tests were encouraging.

Capcom Confident in Onimusha’s Switch 2 Performance

“I think we made it really well, so well you may not even be able to feel a difference,”

Kadowaki said.

“Honestly speaking, we only started working on a Switch 2 version partway through development,”

but the development team felt the game

“really could compete with the other platforms.”

However, Kadowaki acknowledged that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will have technical differences. According to the producer, other platforms can run the game at 60 FPS or higher, while the Switch 2 version targets 30 FPS, though he believes both versions can still deliver an enjoyable action experience.

Director Satoru Nihei also highlighted the benefits of the Nintendo hardware’s handheld mode, saying the ability to fully play the game while lying in bed became a popular topic among the development team.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on September 4, 2026, with the release date moved forward from September 25. Capcom confirmed the earlier launch date through its official announcement.
