Calvin Harris clinched the esteemed title of Best Dance Act at the BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard. The 40-year-old DJ expressed gratitude towards fellow artist Ellie Goulding, 37, who collaborated with him on the chart-topping track ‘Miracle’.
During his acceptance speech at the annual awards ceremony held on Saturday (02.03.24), Harris also dedicated the award to a timeless album from 1996.
Speaking live on stage at London’s O2 Arena, he said:
“Wow. Wow, thank you. First and foremost I want to dedicate this award to Danny Rampling’s ‘Love Groove Dance Party’ and I want to thank Ellie Goulding – wherever she is. Ellie, I wouldn’t be on this stage if it wasn’t for you and I couldn’t have done it with anyone else in this room.”
Calvin Harris faced stiff competition from Barry Can’t Swim, Fred Again, Romy, and Becky Hill for the award. His victory halted the winning streak of ‘My Heart Goes’ hitmaker, who had secured the award for two consecutive years.
Ellie Goulding visibly moved, applauded, and cheered for Calvin as he received the award. Meanwhile, Casisdead emerged triumphant in the Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act category, surpassing contenders Central C, Dave J Hus, and Little Simz.
The 37-year-old rap and grime MC debuted with his smash hit ‘Famous Last Words’ in 2023. In his acceptance speech, he humorously expressed his intention not to “p*** anyone off” by taking up too much time, assuring that he would acknowledge everyone involved after leaving the stage. He said:
“This is well funny. Look man, there are so many people involved in this record. There ain’t enough time to thank everybody because I know you don’t wanna get p**** off so I’ll thank you all personally later.”
After securing two wins, Jungle, who had earlier been honored with the Group of the Year award, took the stage to perform their track ‘Back on ’74’.
