As she is shut in alone, Hitori practices playing guitar and uploads a video of her performances online. In high school, Hitori enters without any friends, but to her surprise, a drummer from the Kessoku Brand approaches her, changing her life forever.
Bocchi the Rock! Episode 1 Review
Bocchi the Rock! episode 1 greeted by Hitori Gotō, who has dealt with something many of them experienced during their school years: social anxiety. They have struggled to make friends because they are unable to communicate with classmates. However, after viewing a boy band on television, Hitori decided to become a rock fan.
Their guitar was played for three years, and they uploaded covers on YouTube under the smart username guitar hero, honing their technique. It became even more difficult for them to get a band together in junior high due to their social anxiety. Hitori is now a high school student determined to fulfill this dream.
Nijika Ijichi, a second-year student at Shimo-Kitazawa High, would prove to be a blessing for Hitori. They were recruited by Niika to perform at the local club Starry as part of their rock band Kessoku Band. Like Ringo Sheena and Doll$Boxx’s F Chopper Koga, Hitori needed a compelling stage name to win over its audience.
In Japan, Bocchi refers to someone who always works alone and is christened “Hitori” by bassist Ryo Yamada. It wouldn’t have felt out of place at the Hollywood Palladium to watch Hitori’s box performance in the presence of Rammstein’s Christian “Flake” Lorenz playing keyboards while walking a treadmill and Wayne Coyne performing inside a hamster ball.
In the end, Bocchi The Rock delivers big time with a strong introduction to the main character and his vision of eventually headlining the Zepp Super Arena. Hitori’s inner dialogue is a strong factor in this show, which keeps the show moving along with plenty of humor. The fake-out ending credits scene midway through was one of the most memorable moments.
There is also an interesting plot point surrounding Hitori’s guitar hero page. Nijika and Ryo both praise guitar hero’s covers at one point in the show, unaware that Hitori is who they are praising. Upon learning the truth, Hitori’s new bandmates will probably react interestingly. It isn’t determined if Hitori will be able to pack arenas across town, but the road to get there will undoubtedly be filled with exciting moments.
