The BLUE LOCK live-action film has surpassed 1 billion yen at the Japanese box office, reaching the milestone just 19 days after its theatrical debut. The film opened across Japan on August 7 and has continued to draw audiences throughout the month.
According to the live-action film’s X account post, the film crossed 1 billion yen, or approximately $6.28 million, by August 26. It has also become the fourth live-action adaptation of a Japanese manga to reach the 1 billion yen mark in 2026, following Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen, Sakamoto Days, and Golden Kamuy: Abashiri Prison Arc.
BLUE LOCK Continues Its Strong Theatrical Run
The official BLUE LOCK movie account celebrated the achievement by thanking viewers and encouraging fans to continue watching the film’s intense story of aspiring strikers. The film debuted with 277.6 million yen from 188,212 admissions and initially opened in eighth place at the Japanese box office.
Despite the competitive release period, the adaptation has remained in the Top 10 for three consecutive weekends. Its theatrical run also expanded on August 21 with MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema screenings, giving audiences more ways to experience the football action on the big screen.
The film is directed by Yusuke Taki and based on the manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura. The screenplay was written by Tetsuo Kamata, while Ado performs the theme song “Monstruo” and the insert song “Kira.” Fukase of SEKAI NO OWARI also contributes the insert song “twilight.”
The official BLUE LOCK movie website confirms that the live-action adaptation brings the manga’s ruthless striker selection program to theaters, following Yoichi Isagi and other young players competing to become Japan’s ultimate goal scorer. The film has also begun its international rollout in more than 30 countries and regions.
