Game Science, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Black Myth: Wukong, has confirmed that it will not use generative AI during the development of its upcoming title Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The studio says the decision is focused on maintaining artistic authenticity rather than rejecting new technology.
According to Gamersky, Game Science co-founder and art director Yang Qi revealed that AI tools will not be involved in either the concept creation or production stages of the game. The developer believes that handcrafted creative work remains essential for delivering the level of detail and emotional impact expected from the Black Myth franchise.

Yang Qi explained that the studio is not against technological advancements but does not want to adopt AI simply because it has become a major industry trend. He compared the approach to filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who continues using traditional filmmaking methods despite the availability of advanced digital effects.
The studio is instead focusing on
“authenticity, precision, and an organic creative process”
while developing Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The game is currently in early production, with only a conceptual CGI trailer and a Chinese New Year promotional video revealed so far.
Following the massive success of Black Myth: Wukong, expectations for the next entry are high. While Game Science has not announced an official release date, reports suggest Black Myth: Zhong Kui could arrive around 2028.
