The release of Black Clover Volume 38 is giving fans more than just the manga’s final collected chapters. Alongside the final volume, creator Yuki Tabata has included additional material that is already fueling speculation about the franchise’s future. One of the biggest talking points comes from an illustration that appears to show the Zogratis siblings alive following the climactic battle against Lucius Zogratis.
While the bonus content does not explicitly confirm a sequel, the appearance of Vanica, Zenon, and Dante has prompted widespread discussion within the Black Clover community. The image has led many readers to wonder whether Tabata intentionally left the door open for another story set after Asta’s journey, especially since the final chapter established a new era for the Clover Kingdom under its next generation of heroes.
It is important to note that neither Shueisha nor Yuki Tabata has announced a sequel to Black Clover. However, the newly released material has introduced enough unanswered questions to keep fans talking about what could come next.
Bonus artwork suggests the Zogratis family survived the final battle
The most discussed page from the Volume 38 extras depicts Vanica and Zenon Zogratis emerging from the rubble after the final conflict against Lucius. Their appearance has surprised readers because the siblings were believed to have met their end during the series’ concluding battles.
The additional content also appears to show their devils, Megicula and Beelzebub, reunited with them. If interpreted literally, that would mean the devils also survived the final conflict, preserving some of the strongest magical threats introduced during the Spade Kingdom arc.
The artwork also includes Dante Zogratis in an unusual state. Rather than returning with a complete body, Dante appears only as a severed head. Although bizarre, the depiction aligns with his Body Magic, which has repeatedly allowed him to survive injuries that would normally be fatal.
The illustration has also prompted fans to revisit Chapter 344, where Lucius was shown storing the bodies of his siblings inside mysterious spheres behind his throne. Lucius later combined Body Magic, Blood Magic, Bone Magic, and Soul Magic to construct new bodies, making it plausible that remnants of the Zogratis family could still exist after his defeat.
Could the surviving siblings become future villains?
The bonus material stops short of explaining what ultimately happened to the Zogratis family after the war, leaving readers to interpret the scene themselves. That uncertainty has fueled speculation that the surviving siblings could become antagonists in a future Black Clover project should the franchise continue beyond Volume 38.
Some fans have theorized that the mysterious airship seen near the end of the manga could belong to a new organization led by the remaining Zogratis siblings. If true, it could provide a natural conflict during Asta’s reign as Wizard King while allowing Tabata to revisit some of the series’ most recognizable villains.
At this stage, however, those ideas remain fan theories rather than confirmed story developments. The extra content simply shows the siblings alive without revealing their goals, whereabouts, or whether they will play any role beyond the illustration itself.
Volume 38 also includes several personal notes from Tabata, including stories about his family, childhood hobbies, and his journey to becoming a manga creator.
