President Joe Biden finds himself in a tight race against Donald Trump as the 2024 presidential election draws near. A key concern for voters is Biden’s age and recent verbal slip-ups, a worry likely not assuaged by his recent visit to Michigan.
During his Michigan appearance, Biden sought permission from his staff to take questions from the audience. This request was made as he met with supporters and volunteers of his 2024 election campaign in the state. However, before any questions could be answered, press members were promptly escorted away by Biden’s staff.
This incident mirrored a similar occurrence in New Hampshire earlier in the week. Once again, Biden was heard asking his team if he was permitted to field questions, only for the press to be thanked and promptly removed from the scene.
These instances raise concerns about Biden’s accessibility and transparency, particularly as he has held the lowest number of press conferences and interviews of any modern-era president.
While some speculate that this may be a strategic move by his team for the 2024 election, others view it as an attempt to shield Biden from unscripted moments that could potentially backfire.
Former White House Foreign Press Group president Kethevane Gorjestani suggested a different approach, advocating for a more candid and unfiltered Biden.
Gorjestani noted that while there are risks associated with unscripted interactions, Biden has previously thrived in such situations, particularly when engaging with adversarial questions and comments.
While Biden’s verbal slip-ups have sparked concerns, Gorjestani believes that allowing Biden to be himself could actually work in his favor. Despite occasional mix-ups, Biden has shown an ability to handle unscripted moments effectively, a trait that could resonate positively with voters.
