The intensity grows bigger with each episode of the second leg of Better Call Saul. So, today, we’re presenting you the Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 9 recap. Reader beware, as there are massive spoilers in this text. And we don’t want to ruin the fun for you. Setting those warnings aside, we got to tell you that this episode was the epitome of Jimmy McGill’s Kafkaesque transformation into Saul Goodman.
Throughout this two-part season, we have become accustomed to seeing a character pass away in nearly every episode. Nacho arrived first, followed by Howard and Lalo. I spent most of this week’s episode thinking, “Yes, yes, it’s perfectly natural to take a breath before the big final push,” after last week’s explosive, action-packed episode. Let’s pause and remind ourselves of the situation, the players, and the stakes. No significant departures are required tonight.
Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 9 Recap
Lalo Salamanca’s story was swiftly but satisfactorily resolved in last week’s midseason premiere, which also hinted at some major problems that Jimmy and Kim’s relationship was likely to face. On that front, “Fun And Games” succeeds, swiftly tracing the marriage of the McGills. Jimmy’s heart breaks when Kim admits they have fun together but don’t bring out the best in one another, she is correct, and they bring out the worst in one another, which has negative repercussions.
You need only consider how they used the Sandpiper case to advance their professional careers. Jimmy eagerly agreed to Kim’s plans to humiliate Howard rather than use the settlement to aid others, even as the plan continued to harm Howard more and more. Everything was amusing up until someone died. Yes, the McGills are very skilled con artists. They exhibit frighteningly genuine sincerity even when trying to persuade a widow who has been led to believe that her husband committed suicide and was a drug addict to hide their involvement in the man’s death.
Kim’s At A Crossroads
Kim would most likely have been by Saul Goodman’s side in Breaking Bad, continuing to pursue her passion for advocacy law, perhaps, but also continuing a pattern of bad behavior if that scene between Jimmy, Kim, and Howard’s widow Cheryl hadn’t inspired her to make life-altering decisions. Even though the end of Jimmy and Kim’s relationship in “Fun And Games” was inevitable, it still happened sooner than we might have anticipated. Jimmy was particularly shocked by the split and Kim’s blunt but accurate assessment of their moral character as a team. She told him why she was leaving while having her belongings packed into suitcases and boxes. She is always organized. Despite declaring her love for Jimmy, Kim left her career and friends behind. But is this the last we’ll see of her in Better Call Saul?
Enter Saul Goodman
All of those storylines have a good amount of room to develop, but Kim’s bombshell to Jimmy moved too quickly—again, like everything else in this second half so far. Jimmy briefly enters full-on Saul Goodman mode after his breakup with Kim, complete with pastel suits, a gaudy mansion, and the LWYRUP license plate. Kim has vanished, save for the fact that Saul is currently spending the night with another woman, which happened after she left him. The following morning, he quickly bids his new love farewell by giving her a cereal bar from a huge bowl he keeps on his dining room table.
Mike Ehrmantraut The Handyman
All of the characters left in the Saul universe as of “Fun And Games” have some sort of resolution. Mike resolves the Howard situation as legally as he is able to. Mike and Gus shut down the tunnel in Gus’ lair after the Lalo threat was removed, and Gus tells Mike to resume building the meth lab after reassuring Don Eladio that Hector’s allegations of Gus’ backstabbing were unfounded. And yes, Kim leaves the bar, her marriage, and goes somewhere that is currently unknown. Kim won’t have any ambiguity at the end of the series, according to Saul showrunner Peter Gould, so we haven’t seen the last of her, right?
