Betsy Brandt, known for her role in Breaking Bad, has filed for divorce from her husband, Grady Olsen, after 25 years of marriage. According to documents obtained by Us Weekly on December 27, 2024, Brandt, 51, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation.
In her divorce filing, Brandt is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their 16-year-old son, August. She also mentioned the need for the couple to divide their property, though it remains unclear if they had a prenuptial agreement in place. Brandt filed the divorce petition on December 23, 2024, but the date of separation was listed as August 1, 2023—just a month before their 25th wedding anniversary.
Interestingly, the divorce was filed “pro per,” meaning Brandt chose not to have legal representation. The news of the split came just days after the filing, and Us Weekly reached out to Brandt’s representative for further comment, but no response was provided.
Betsy Brandt is widely recognized for her role as Marie Schrader in Breaking Bad and its prequel Better Call Saul. After the end of the Breaking Bad series, Brandt showcased her comedic talents in the CBS sitcom Life in Pieces. Reflecting on her time in the franchise, she expressed her gratitude for being part of such an influential show.
Despite Brandt’s efforts to keep her personal life private, she and Olsen occasionally attended high-profile Hollywood events. In September 2022, they were seen together at the AMC Networks’ Emmy Brunch Photocall in Los Angeles. Olsen also attended key events like the SAG Awards and the Breaking Bad premiere in 2008.
Looking back on her career, Brandt has often spoken about how Breaking Bad shaped her perspective on future roles. In 2017, she shared with VH1, “I was lucky enough to be on a show like Breaking Bad for five seasons. It changes how you look at other projects that come up.” She admitted that it took time for her to stop comparing new opportunities to her iconic role as Marie.
As 2024 comes to a close, Brandt seems to be reflecting on the good moments from the past year. She shared a lighthearted post on Instagram in November, expressing her desire for three more months of fall at Stonecliffe on Mackinac Island. With her divorce proceedings underway, it seems she is looking forward to a new chapter in her personal and professional life in 2025.
