Beat & Motion is the story of a young animator trying to be someone in life. Tatsuhiko Hirayama found his love for animation after attending a workshop when he was just a child. The person who conducted the workshop praised him for his work. At that moment, Tatsuhiko decided he wanted to become an animator. He used to spend most of his time polishing his skills.
That was the case until one day, some of his friends found his sketchbook and made fun of him for it. Tatsuhiko was overwhelmed by his peer’s negative reactions and decided to give up on his dream to become an animator. After getting a bit older, he found his passion again after joining a band. However, that, too, fell through after a while.
With two failed dreams and nothing to show for it, Tatsuhiko was in a dark place in his life. That was when he met Nico Kashiwagi. He didn’t know it at the time, but she was a musician whom he adored for a while now. After some inspiring words from Nico, he decides to start animating again. After working long and hard, he was able to produce some results.
Nico saw his work and contacted him to animate her latest song. It seems that Nico has no memory of their drunken night together. They started working on it together, but it didn’t last long. Nico was contacted by a Mahoroba Record Label wanting to sign her. Their project ultimately had to be put on ice for a later time. Nico achieving her dreams was just the push he needed.
Tatsuhiko decided to make a career out of animation, and to get his footing; he decided to take part in an Anime Festival where their short movies would be played in theaters. And as it turns out, the person who praised his work when he was in school was on the judging board. Nico advises him to ask his other animator friends for advice, but Tatsuhiko doesn’t have any.
Beat & Motion Manga Recap
Tatsuhiko still hasn’t figured out what to do for his Film Festival submission. He goes to Akame and Nabori for advice as they are fellow animators. We met Akame and Nabori a couple of chapters back. They became quite famous after animating a popular song. Tatsuhiko had no idea there were any other animators in his school, let alone successful ones.
At the same time, Nico is going to Mahoroba Headquarters to finalize her contract. Before heading over, she met with Kaoru Takshima from Mahoroba to talk about her music. Takshima seems to be very passionate about Nico. She wants to see Nico live up to her full potential. Mahoroba has the rights to 15 of her most popular songs. Takshima wants Tokyo Uma to be her debut song.
Little did she know things were not all smooth sailing at Mahoroba. Turns out several celebrities from a different company were transferred to Mahoroba. Meaning they have stopped signing on new talent for the foreseeable future due to budgetary issues. Takshima becomes angry at her manager for doing this, but he explains how none of it is under his control.
Nico is disappointed, but the silver lining is that it’s only temporary. In the meantime, she wants to work as a composer making songs for other artists. Since Mahoroba only has the right to her top 15 songs and Tokyo Uma. But her other songs are up for grabs. Tatsuhiko wants to animate one of her songs for the Film Festival but is hesitant to ask Nico’s permission.
Beat & Motion Chapter 11 Spoilers & Predictions
Tatsuhiko went to Akame and Nabori yet again to ask for advice. Nabori recognized that what Tatsuhiko wanted was encouragement and not advice. He realized that Tatsuhiko had made up his mind already and planned to follow through with it by any means necessary. In the next chapter, we will see Tatsuhiko meeting up with Nico to ask her opinion on the matter.
Nico has no reason to deny his request. However, we cannot be certain about it. Furthermore, she will be starting her new job at Mohoroba Records. She never had to make songs for another person before. This job will be a new experience for Nico. Takshima is hoping that once she showcases her skill in composing, she can convince the higher-ups to fast-track her contract.
