The anticipated action comedy picture starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, Bad Boys 4, has a modest date change as filming draws to a close. Sony Pictures stated on February 26 that the Bad Boys sequel will now open in theatres on June 7, one week earlier than originally scheduled on June 14.
The rescheduled release date of Bad Boys 4 will allow for premium big format and IMAX screenings, providing audiences with additional viewing options. Following a schedule change with the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, Bad Boys 4 will now compete against the Bill Skarsgård-starring adaptation of The Crow, which opens on the same day.
The buddy cop sequel Bad Boys 4 is almost finished, according to Smith, who provided the most recent update on principal photography from Miami. Production is already in its last stages.
A later leak from the movie’s set features Smith and co-star Melanie Liburd filming a wedding scene, hinting at a significant event that moviegoers may expect to see. Filming for Bad Boys 4 started in April of last year in Atlanta, but the SAG-AFTRA strike put a stop to the project for several months.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence Reunite as the Bad Boys
In the most recent Bad Boys sequel, Smith and Lawrence return to their respective roles as pals and drug enforcement officers, Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey and Detective Lieutenant Marcus Barnett, who work to keep Miami’s streets free of criminal activity while dressing rebelliously in the process.
Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah made a comeback to the helm of films with Bad Boys for Life in 2020. El Arbi previewed the title of the film and suggested that Bad Boys 4 would be funnier than Bad Boys for Life. Meanwhile, producer Jerry Bruckheimer makes a reappearance.
Despite receiving mediocre reviews, the first two Bad Boys movies, which were released in 1995 and 2003 respectively, made $141 million and $273 million worldwide. The franchise has a track record of making money at the box office.
On the other hand, Bad Boys for Life was a critical and financial triumph, grossing over $426 million in worldwide ticket sales. Alongside Smith and Lawrence, returning from Bad Boys for Life are Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Khaled “DJ Khaled” Khaled, and Paola Núñez.
Theresa Randle, who portrayed the role in the first three films, is replaced by Tasha Smith in the role of Marcus’ wife, Theresa. On June 7, Bad Boys 4 will be released in theatres across North America.
