Baby V.O.X has again taken over the internet and all the media headlines are highlighting the same. Indeed, not many new K-Pop fans know about the group but those who were here from the early 2000s definitely have all the knowledge about their vibrant stardom and blue-grey fall.
Indeed, Baby V.O.X was one of the first-generation girl groups. They were one of the popular ones of the time and always gave tough competition to other successful first-generation girl groups like S.E.S and FINKL. They were literally ruling the South Korean music industry in the late 90s and early 2000s with their evergreen soundtracks like “Get Up” and “Killer”.
Though, everything blacked out for the girls when they were indecently tangled in a baseless controversy. Those brutal past events have been again brought back by the CEO of the group through his recent interview. The talk truly highlights the fact that the media and fans can be both a boon and bane for any artist out there.
Baby V.O.X & Tupac Controversy: Yoon Deung Ryong Talks About Group’s Past Controversies
Baby Vox has again bagged media headlines as the founder and label DR Music CEO Yoon Deung Ryong appeared on controversial YouTuber Kim Yong Ho’s channel. On April 21, 2022, the CEO sat with Kim Yong Ho and talked about the past controversies of the girl group Baby V.O.X.
The CEO talked about how brutal were the H.O.T fans when Baby V.O.X’s Kan Miyoun was tangled with H.O.T’s leader Moon Hee Joon in a very baseless scandal. He said that at that time, their office and the girl’s dorm were filled with hundreds of threatening letters from all the H.O.T fans out there. It was an equally deathly and depressing situation for both the girls and the company.
Speaking about the sudden crash of the bright and vibrant music career of Baby V.O.X, Yoon Deung Ryong pointed out the Tupac sample as the root of everything. According to him, the Tupac sample wanted the girls to release a hip-hop song. In order to make it big and impactful, he himself met with Interscope Records and bought music rights and rights to the late Tupac’s likeness.
The group released “Xcstasy,” which featured the later rapper, and the point to be noted is that everything in that particular music video was per the likeness of the late rapper. Though nothing impactful happened with the releases instead, they received a brutal backlash from the media as well as the fans.
The issue of plagiarism and allegations of illegally sampling the late rapper’s vocals were taking over the internet like wildfire at that time. Even though the CEO asserted the fact that all the rights were purchased and cleared legally, things didn’t settle down.
To make it even worse, Lee Na Neul of DJ D.O.C, who is known for his controversial background, added fuel to the already raging fire. He publicly labeled Baby V.O.X as “Miari V.O.X,” relating it to Miari, which was one of the infamous red-light areas in Korea at that particular time period.
Explaining how badly that public defamation affected the girls, Yoon Deung Ryong said that it was brutal. The fact that all the members of the group were really young, some were barely out of High School, made it ten times worse for all of them. It destroyed every hope for them and forced them to take different paths.
According to the CEO, they cried rivers as it ended everything for them. He also pointed out that if, in those times, the laws were as strict as they are today, then Lee Na Neul would have been behind bars.

Where Are the Members Now?
All the members of the girl group Baby V.O.X parted ways in the year 2006 after everything became bleak for them.
Even though the label tried to bring back the group through a reboot “Baby Vox Re. V”, things didn’t work out.
The members of the group chose different solo paths. Yoon Eun Hye stepped into the acting arena and found success as she starred in drama series like “Princess Hours” and “Coffee Prince”. Kan Miyoun is a successful host, and her radio show “Kan Miyoun’s Love Night,” which airs on SBS’s Love FM, is doing really good.
Kim E-Z retired from the industry and settled down with her husband, Song Hyun Seok. On the other hand, Shin Eun Jin switched careers and stepped into the arena of acting. Since 2006 she has starred in a total of 15 dramas.
Lee Heejin, too settled down with a successful career as an actress. She has starred in 17 drama series since her acting debut in the year 2010.
