Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed dissatisfaction with Israel’s explanation regarding the deaths of seven aid workers, including Australian citizen Zomi Frankcom, in a Gaza airstrike.
Israel admitted on Tuesday that it mistakenly targeted workers from the charity World Central Kitchen, drawing condemnation from the United States and other allies. The victims included individuals from Australia, Britain, Poland, Palestinians, and a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada.
During a press conference in Sydney, Albanese criticized Israel’s justification, particularly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that such incidents are commonplace in warfare.
Albanese stressed the importance of accountability and demanded a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the airstrike.
Celebrity chef Jose Andres, founder of World Central Kitchen, revealed that the Israeli attack deliberately targeted his workers, describing the incident as systematic and targeting aid vehicles one by one.
He highlighted that the workers maintained clear communication with the military, making their movements known.
Albanese emphasized that Frankcom was traveling in a clearly marked aid vehicle, indicating that she should not have been at risk.
He reiterated the necessity for a comprehensive investigation during his call with Netanyahu, underscoring the need for transparency and public disclosure of the findings.
The Australian Prime Minister’s stance reflects a strong demand for accountability and transparency in response to the tragic deaths of the aid workers.
He emphasizes the importance of understanding how such incidents occur and ensuring that measures are taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
