Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has sold more than 2 million copies within its first day, making it one of the fastest-selling entries in the franchise.
The remastered version of the beloved 2013 pirate adventure also recorded the highest concurrent player count ever achieved by an Assassin’s Creed game on Steam, highlighting the enduring popularity of Edward Kenway’s journey.
The milestone was confirmed by Ubisoft through the official Assassin’s Creed X account, where the publisher thanked players for the overwhelming response.
“Dash my Buttons… Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has already passed 2 million copies sold! Whether you’re sailing with us again, or stepping aboard the Jackdaw for the first time: THANK YOU from the bottom of ARR hearts.”
Black Flag surpasses newer Assassin’s Creed releases

The launch performance puts Black Flag Resynced ahead of several recent Assassin’s Creed titles on Steam, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows, according to player data tracked by SteamDB.
While direct comparisons are affected by differences in launch platforms and release timing, the remaster’s record-breaking concurrent player count demonstrates the lasting appeal of its open-world pirate gameplay.
Ubisoft also emphasized that the game reached 2 million copies sold, a more specific sales figure than the “players” metric previously used for some earlier releases.
Assassin’s Creed brand boss Martin Schelling said the remaster was created to celebrate one of the franchise’s most beloved entries.
“Black Flag has always held a special place in the heart of the community, and ours. Bringing it back with Resynced was a promise to that passion for Edward’s adventures, and to the unique sense of freedom players experienced back then.”
He added that seeing two million players set sail on day one, along with positive critical reception, was
“the greatest reward we could have hoped for.”
The strong launch suggests that Ubisoft’s return to the Golden Age of Piracy has resonated with both longtime fans and newcomers, reinforcing Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag as one of the series’ most enduring and successful installments.
