With the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime having concluded over a year ago, fans eagerly anticipate its potential return. The primary factor determining the anime’s revival is the availability of sufficient source material, given that the series ended due to a shortage of content.
As of now, the Boruto anime does indeed possess ample source material for a new season, particularly if Studio Pierrot opts for a seasonal format.
Studio Pierrot has acknowledged the industry trend favoring seasonal anime with higher animation quality over long-running series. To adapt to this demand, the studio established PIERROT FILMS, focusing on producing seasonal anime within shorter time frames, as seen with the ongoing Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime.
Are There Enough Boruto Chapters for Another Anime Season?
Comparing the anime to the manga, it’s evident that the anime concluded its adaptation around chapter 68 of the manga, leaving approximately 13 chapters unadapted. Each manga chapter can be translated into a standalone anime episode, indicating that the remaining source material is sufficient for a new 12-13 episode season.
Furthermore, the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, soon releasing its tenth chapter, contributes additional source material. Combined with the original Boruto manga, there’s enough content for a standard 23-episode anime season.
However, it’s unlikely that PIERROT FILMS will merge the two manga storylines into one season, suggesting a single-cour season in the future.
Despite having adequate source material, the timing of Boruto’s return depends on PIERROT FILMS’ current focus.
With ongoing projects like Bleach and potential future adaptations of the new Naruto anime and Black Clover, Boruto’s revival may be delayed. Nonetheless, fans can anticipate a new season once the studio’s schedule permits.
