Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has entered its open beta, but the PC version has encountered a rocky start. Soon after the beta became available, players began reporting widespread performance issues, optimization problems, and gameplay concerns that appear to be affecting the PC release more than its PlayStation counterpart.

In response to the growing number of complaints, Arc System Works publicly acknowledged the issues and apologized to players. The studio confirmed that it is actively investigating the problems while working on fixes before the game’s scheduled launch on August 6, 2026.

Arc System Works confirms it is investigating PC performance problems

Following reports from players across Reddit, social media, and gaming forums, Arc System Works stated on the game’s official X account. The developer reassured fans that the team is treating the situation as a priority.

“We’re aware of the gameplay and performance issues currently affecting the PC version of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls,”

the studio wrote.

The statement continued,

“Our team is actively investigating these issues and working on a fix. We’ll share an update as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we sincerely apologise for the impact this has had on your experience.”

Alongside the apology, Arc System Works shared several community-suggested troubleshooting steps. However, the developer emphasized that these recommendations are not officially confirmed fixes, as the investigation is still ongoing.

Players report optimization, input, and PSN-related concerns

Many players have reported inconsistent frame rates, unusually high CPU usage, and unstable performance even on powerful gaming PCs. Some users believe the game is placing excessive load on a single CPU thread, while others have pointed to background PlayStation-related services and anti-cheat software as possible contributing factors. Arc System Works has not confirmed these community theories.

Beyond performance, competitive players have also highlighted concerns about input responsiveness. Several beta participants claim the game’s input buffering feels inconsistent during combos, making special move execution less reliable than expected.

The beta has also renewed criticism of Sony’s mandatory PlayStation Network account requirement on PC. Some players say repeatedly signing into PSN every time they launch the game creates unnecessary friction, while others continue to criticize the account-linking requirement that has prevented the game from being sold in more than 100 countries.

Beta feedback expected to shape launch build

Despite the criticism, open beta tests are designed to uncover technical issues before release, giving developers time to improve stability and gameplay. With launch only weeks away, Arc System Works is expected to use player feedback to deliver additional patches before release.

Developed by the creators of the Guilty Gear series, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls features a 4v4 tag-team fighting system and a roster of 20 Marvel heroes and villains, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, Storm, Hulk, Doctor Doom, Loki, Deadpool, and Magneto. Whether the PC version receives the necessary optimizations before launch will likely be closely watched by the fighting game community.
