The future of Arc Raiders Expeditions has become uncertain after Embark Studios confirmed that the system will be paused until early 2027. The decision was originally made to give the developer time to address longstanding complaints surrounding progression resets, rewards, and accessibility, but new comments suggest the eventual solution could be much more drastic.

In an interview with PCGamesN at Gamescom, executive producer Aleksander Grøndal acknowledged that the current Expedition system has not reached the standard the studio wants.

“We want to make some significant changes to the Expedition system,”

Grøndal said, while explaining that the team is still evaluating its next steps.

Embark Could Completely Remove Arc Raiders Expeditions

Expeditions function as an optional endgame progression system in Arc Raiders, allowing players to reset their character’s progression in exchange for long-term benefits. However, the mechanic has faced criticism over its demanding requirements, limited departure windows and reward structure, particularly for newer players. Embark previously said these issues required more than incremental adjustments.

Grøndal has now indicated that a complete replacement is possible.

“Maybe we’ll scrap the whole system altogether. That is on the table, too,”

the executive producer told PCGamesN. He added that the development team is currently working out what Expeditions should become in the future.

The fifth Expedition, which runs through September 29, 2026, is the final one before the planned hiatus. During the break, the studio will focus on larger changes rather than another round of smaller adjustments.

Meanwhile, the studio is preparing Frozen Trail, a major update scheduled for October 8. The expansion is expected to introduce substantial new content and progression changes, making it an important test for Arc Raiders while Embark determines what its long-term endgame should look like.
