Death Kumiai and publisher Flashlight Games have announced that Annihilated, a dark and cute roguelite deckbuilder RPG, will launch on Steam on November 10, 2026. The game combines a colorful, whimsical visual style with psychological horror, branching storytelling, and a dangerous dungeon where players must decide which broken hero they are willing to save.
At the center of Annihilated is a simple but difficult choice. The legendary Hero’s party has disappeared inside a cursed dungeon, and the player is the sole survivor of the rescue party sent after them. The surviving members of the original party have been severely changed by the dungeon, and players can only bring one of them out alive.
The game will launch for $16.99 USD and €17.25, with a 10% discount during its first two weeks. Annihilated will support English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
Annihilated Builds Its Story Around Four Broken Heroes
Rather than following a single linear storyline, Annihilated features four main routes, with player decisions affecting how each journey develops and ends. The game uses a visual novel-inspired narrative structure alongside dungeon exploration, with a script spanning approximately 200,000 words.
The premise places the player alongside a party member whose abilities and identity have been damaged by the dungeon’s curse. The Hero, Mage, Warrior, and Priest each bring different abilities and problems to the journey, making the decision of whom to rescue a major part of the experience. Steam also lists multiple endings and choices that affect the story.
Lead Artist and Lead Writer Sabotenshi explained that the game’s creative direction draws from retro games and character-driven storytelling.
“Our goal is to craft a whimsical cartoon-style game grounded in authentic human nature and weighty thematic depth.”
The developers cite influences including Fire Emblem, Super Mario RPG, Undertale, and The Legend of Zelda, alongside text adventures, light novels, and JRPGs from around 2010.
The Dungeon Is Designed to Punish Players

The dungeon itself serves as one of the game’s central threats. Monsters, traps, random events, limited equipment, and the lingering curse can quickly turn an otherwise manageable run into a deadly one.
Annihilated uses roguelite dungeon-crawling mechanics with instant retries and high lethality. Players must carefully manage their resources while deciding when to fight and when to avoid danger. Steam’s current game description similarly highlights turn-based card battles, weapon durability, dangerous traps, and a Curse system that can alter unfavorable outcomes.
Combat combines turn-based card mechanics with timing-based inputs, meaning strategy alone is not enough. Players must also react at the right moment to execute attacks effectively.
Weapons introduce another layer of risk management. Their durability is limited, but players can deliberately break equipment to trigger temporary combat advantages. Defeats and broken weapons also generate Curse points, which can be spent on items, stat improvements, or ways to survive dangerous situations.
