Re:Zero – a must watch anime of 2016

The 'RE' trend of 2016 (part 3)

One of the most successful, interesting and worth watching anime of this year is Re:Zero- Starting life in Another world (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu). Re:Zero is the second best anime show of the year (Newtype)

Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Psychological, Thriller

When Subaru Natsuki leaves the convenience store, he suddenly finds himself dropped into a fantasy world. Bewildered by the new world, he is attacked by some thugs. Fortunately, a beautiful girl named Satella, looking for the theft who stole her insignia, happens to run by Subaru and saves him. In order to return the favor, Subaru offers to help in her search. His high spirit when he eventually finds the whereabouts of that which she seeks is smashed by their own brutal death. However, Subaru immediately reawakens to his starting moment in the new world—confronted by the same group of thugs, meeting Satella all over again. The story inexplicably repeats itself.

ReZero is such an amazing show thanks to its art, plot and main character.

One the best thing about ReZero to start with is its spectacular art with many beautiful girls. All characters except the main characters look beautiful. Subaru is perhaps now defined by his high school gym outfit after the anime’s success.  Ram and Rem (Newtype awards for best female character) have become such a popular twin that they are cosplayed in almost every anime festival this year. The magic fights and background scenes are sparkling. The art definitely catches the viewers’ eyes.

The story is told from Subaru point of view so all the mystery that happens can’t be explained until Subaru has died for at least 3 times. This could be why ReZero is so appealing. Subaru has to find out how and why he dies and then what to do in order not to die. It’s a painful and torturing process to die and start all over again. All the thing he is able to accomplished in the previous life, all the relationship he has made will disappear when he dies and restarts again. In each life, Subaru discovers new things about his situation. The plot is not only attractively enigmatic but also tragically sinister. ReZero successfully combines the happy hours of Subaru and the disastrous horror of the world around him.

The most remarkable about ReZero is Subaru. He is probably the lamest but best male character this year (Newtype award). He is weak but so full of himself. However, he is respectable for his endless efforts, never-give-up spirit and his unrequited love for Emilia-tan. Subaru’s mental growth is the best to watch in ReZero. He evolves every time he dies. He is not overpowered like many main characters. He suffers, he loses, he dies then he dies again many times before he could finally find his way out of the loop.

‘It was rough. It was so painful. I was so scared. I was so sad. It hurt so much, I thought I’d die. I tried so hard… I tried so hard! I was so desperate, so desperate to make everything right! It’s the truth. I’ve honestly never tried so hard at anything in my life!’

If you have not watch Re:Zero, you should give it a go!

To conclude, 2016 is probably famous for its ‘re’ trend. The way the characters able to fix, to relive and redo their lives is fascinating in each different anime. However, this is what happens only in anime. In real life, no one can travel back in time to change their lives.

So, all the best for the upcoming year.

Happy New Year!!!
