Andrew Garfield has addressed the latest speculation surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, confirming that he has not yet watched Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man movie. The former Peter Parker also once again denied that he will return as the character in Marvel Studios’ next Avengers film, although his history of keeping Spider-Man: No Way Home secrets has made fans skeptical.
Garfield discussed the Marvel projects while attending the Los Angeles premiere of his new historical action drama The Uprising on September 2. During his conversation with Variety, he also explained why he has not yet congratulated Holland on the success of Brand New Day.

Garfield explained to Variety that he did not want to congratulate Holland on the performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day before actually watching the movie himself.
“I don’t want to be disingenuous,”
Garfield told Variety. He added that while a movie performing strongly at the box office is “an incredible thing,” he wants to watch Holland’s work before reaching out to his former co-star.
Garfield revealed that he also has not watched Holland’s The Odyssey yet. He said he intends to message Holland after seeing both films, suggesting that the delay is simply because he has not had an opportunity to watch them rather than any lack of support for Holland.
The actor was also asked about the extraordinary performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to Variety, the movie had reached $891 million domestically and was projected to potentially become the first film to cross $1 billion at the North American box office.
Garfield said he understood why Spider-Man continues to connect with audiences across generations.
“Everyone has ownership over him, he’s everybody’s,”
he explained, describing Peter Parker as both ordinary and extraordinary.
The more immediate question for Marvel fans, however, concerns Avengers: Doomsday. Garfield directly denied being part of the upcoming MCU movie when asked whether he would appear.
“I’m not,”
Garfield said.
That answer has naturally been met with skepticism because Garfield previously denied appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home before his return alongside Holland and Tobey Maguire was officially revealed. When Variety reminded him of that history, Garfield smiled and replied,
“You’ll find out, I suppose, one way or another.”
For now, Garfield’s comments leave his potential Marvel future uncertain, but there is no confirmed announcement that he will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Meanwhile, Garfield is promoting The Uprising, directed by Paul Greengrass. He plays a fictional character who becomes involved in a rebellion against King Richard II, and the actor revealed that he performed most of his own stunt work for the historical action movie.
