Amazon is exploring ways to bring its no-download playable game demos to more destinations beyond Twitch, potentially giving publishers new ways to let players try games instantly. The plans follow an early campaign featuring Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert, which uses Amazon Web Services’ GameLift Streams technology to deliver a playable experience directly through a web browser.
The expansion could eventually allow developers to offer instant-play demos across other Amazon services and through external partners, rather than relying solely on Twitch.
Amazon Sees Twitch as the Starting Point for Instant Play Demos
The Crimson Desert demo launched on August 31, 2026, giving PC players approximately 20 minutes of gameplay through a dedicated Twitch page. The experience loads in under three seconds and does not require users to download or install the game. It is powered by Amazon GameLift Streams, which runs the game on cloud infrastructure and streams the experience directly to a browser.
During an interview with GamesBeat, Shayan Sanyal, Amazon’s global head of games industry business development, explained that Twitch is currently the first destination because of its gaming audience.
“If you think about GameLift Streams as being the technology, and Instant Play Demos being an instantiation of that as a feature, we see Twitch as the first place where players can find it, because that’s where the gamers are,”
Sanyal said.

However, Amazon’s ambitions extend beyond the streaming platform. Sanyal confirmed that the company plans to bring the technology to other parts of Amazon’s business and potentially additional partners. The longer-term vision is to offer a white-label service that allows publishers to distribute playable demos across different websites and platforms.
Amazon has also indicated that it intends to expand GameLift Streams in terms of its underlying technology and supported locations over the coming year. Its official AWS coverage of Instant Play Demos explains the technology.
Crimson Desert Is Among Five Games Using the Technology
Crimson Desert is the fifth game to receive an Instant Play Demo through GameLift Streams. Other titles using the technology include Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Reanimal, Palworld, and World of Tanks: Heat.
The format has also delivered encouraging engagement figures. According to information shared by Sanyal and Pearl Abyss PR and marketing director Will Powers, players spend an average of approximately five and a half minutes in the Crimson Desert demo. It has also consistently ranked among the top two trackable links directing users to Pearl Abyss’ Steam page during the campaign.
Amazon has not announced specific platforms or partners for the planned expansion. Sanyal described the initiative as an ongoing experiment, adding that the company intends to extend the format beyond its current implementation.
