A Quiet Place: Day One, the latest entry in the popular horror franchise, is keeping its momentum going at the box office.
The spin-off film, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn, has already earned an impressive $241.4 million worldwide, which is a great return on its reported $67 million budget. The movie is still playing in theaters around the world.
In the United States, A Quiet Place: Day One managed to stay in the top five at the box office even with the big debut of Twisters. It earned $6.1 million in its fourth weekend, which is a good number considering it’s a decrease of less than 50% from the previous week.
So far, the film has made around $123.4 million domestically, which is close to what the original A Quiet Place earned in the US.
A Quiet Place: Day One is also doing well internationally. Across 67 countries, the film brought in $5.2 million. This brings the international total to $118.8 million. Similar to the US, the decrease in earnings from week to week is less than 50%. The movie performed particularly well in Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, and France.
A Quiet Place: Day One is doing about as well as the first two films, A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. While it’s not quite there yet, the worldwide total for Day One isn’t that far behind A Quiet Place Part II, which earned $297.4 million.
It’s important to remember that A Quiet Place Part II came out during the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected ticket sales. It’s unlikely that Day One will surpass the original film’s $341 million earnings, but that’s common for sequels. However, Day One is getting close to the domestic totals of the previous films.
Who Directed A Quiet Place: Day One?
A Quiet Place: Day One is the first film in the franchise not directed by John Krasinski. Michael Sarnoski, who directed the movie Pig, took the helm for this prequel that shows the origins of the sound-sensitive aliens.
Krasinski did still produce Day One, though. He also directed a different movie this year called IF. There is a third main storyline A Quiet Place film currently in development.
