In the previous chapter of A Playthrough of a Certain Dude’s VRMMO Life, the foundation of the story is set, and we are introduced to the game that will be the main focus of the series. The game is called “One More Free Life Online” (short for OMFLO), and it is a VRMMO.

The protagonist of the anime is a middle-aged guy in his thirties called Taichi Tanaka, who logs into the new game and uses a young boy as his avatar called “Earth.” Tanaka does not want the headache of having friends or enemies in the game, so he just decides to pick the most irrelevant skills to stay low-key.

Earth (Tanaka) decides to master Alchemy, which is often considered pretty useless in an MMORPG. We see that OMFLO is an open-world game replicating the real world. When Tanaka logs in, he sees some famous players, and he gets attacked immediately.

Well, it is often seen that people in games can be very mean and cruel to each other. The same thing happens when one of the top players pushes Earth and makes fun of him for his clumsy bow. Earth just goes to the training hall to practice archery and gets better at it.

After his skill is at a good level, Earth heads out and sees a crowd gathered for herb gathering. Earth also joins to gather herbs, but bad luck strikes him, and he loses all his herbs. The only one he is left with is a toxic flower that should be avoided. Tanaka goes and buys a potion kit to make some basic healing potions to increase his skill level.
