He was born to Stanley Dwight, his father, and Sheila Eileen, his mother. He was raised mainly by his maternal grandparents. Until the age of 17, he attended schools like Pinner County Grammar School, Pinner Wood Junior School, and Reddiford School. At the age of 17, he left his school to pursue music.
His music career started in 1962 when Elton John, along with his few friends, formed a band known as ‘Bluesology.’ By the time when he considered music as his serious career, John used work for two things which were in the nights, he used to play solo in the local London bars and other times used to give time to his band Bluesology.

Elton John and Bernie Taupin, as a team, joined DJM Records, which was run by Dick James. They both joined as a songwriter there in the year 1968. And later, after the advice of Steve Brown, they started writing more complex and heavy songs to record for DJM Records.

He was in a relationship with David Furnish, a filmmaker and executive in the UK. They married on 21 December 2014, in Windsor, Berkshire, After nine years of being together, when the Government legalized same-sex marriage in the United Kingdom in March 2014. He was a supporter of gay marriage and believed in their rights.
They have two sons; Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John(25 December 2010 ) and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John(11 January 2013).
