The Elusive Samurai follows the life of a young boy who is trying to stay one step ahead of those who want to kill him. Based loosely on the life of Hōjō Tokiyuki, the manga follows the boy on his mission to seek revenge on those who brought ruin to his Family.
Hōjō Tokiyuki has zero worries growing up. He was lucky enough to be born into the Hōjō Clan. They were effectively the governing body of their area. But in reality, they are nothing more than just figureheads.
Hōjō Tokiyuki, son of Hōjō Tokatoki, was next in line to inherit his father’s position as head of the clan and as the head of the Governing Body. An interesting thing to note is that Tokiyuki is not the firstborn of Hōjō Tokatoki. His firstborn is not of legitimate conception, and therefore Tokiyuki became next in line. Ironically being the most powerful people is what made them weak.
Tokiyuki has no life skills to speak off. It’s not entirely his fault as his whole life; he had everything handed to him on a silver platter. You can be 100% sure that finding himself in the middle of a massacre was something he never even imagined of happening. The one responsible for his downfall was Ashikaga Takauji, who is also based on a real-life historical figure.
The Elusive Samurai Chapter 96 Recap
We are smack in the middle of a full-on war in this chapter. The Chapter begins with Mochizuki standing over a Fallen Oyama Hidetomo. The duo acknowledges each other as being tough opponents. Then we see someone barreling through his enemies like nothing. He seems to psyche himself and his followers with every word that comes out of his mouth.
Then we see a soldier coming to Tadayoshi on a horse. He is there to inform him that it’s time to retreat. Even though Tadayoshi does not want to take the cowards’ way out, he chooses to live to fight another day. The Ashikaga seem to have bitten off more than they could chew and is now looking for a way out with their heads intact.
However, there is still one thing left to do. The matter of Shinno Moriyoshi. Letting him live will not fair well for the Ashikaga, and they have sent an Assassin to kill him. When they reached Moriyoshi, it was as if he had expected this all along. He welcomed his Assassin with open arms. He proclaimed that he was the Son of the Go-Daigo and told Takauji that his emotions would fail him.
The Elusive Samurai Chapter 97 Spoilers
There is not much known information on what to expect from the upcoming chapter. In the previous one, we saw the ongoing battle at Kamakura coming to an end. Now the characters have to deal with the aftermath of the battle. There seem to have heavy casualties on both sides. And it would be difficult to build the infrastructure back to the way it was once before. There is also the murder of Shinno Moriyoshi.
It is likely that they do know that the culprit is Fuchinobe. It would be interesting to see how they will react to the assassination of the son of Go-Daigo himself. He was a true warrior, and even in death, he was honorable. This victory might put Tokiyuki one step closer to his goal. Hopefully, Hōjō Tokiyuki will be able to reclaim everything he has lost. And hold it close so that he may never lose it again.
