Poong is occupied attempting to dissuade a client who is upset with him from taking ginseng. Gwang-il intervenes and offers the grateful patient root. Gwang-il responds to Poong’s reprimand for intervening by saying that he had already given the client a placebo, which would have been more successful than fighting.
Eon informs him that Gye feels uneasy around him since everyone is surprised that he lied. He laments his bad luck and promises to depart shortly. Ahn seeks to buy the uncle of the Second State Councilor’s favor by offering him a bribe.
The elderly guy declines and instead requests Ahn’s assistance in finding a concubine. The lack of children the governor can offer the elderly guy upsets the governor. As he walks back, he notices Gye and Boon and recalls meeting Gye with a baby after Ip-mother Boon’s death.
Gye is called by Ahn, who teases him while bringing up Jang Kyung, the mother of Ip-boon. While assisting her in escaping the Ahns, Gye announced that Kyung-daughter Sook had died in utero. Ahn informs him that Ip is his niece. Gye condemns me for leaving as he returns to Gye and is concerned.

Gye wakes from a new nightmare to see Poong seated next to him. He recalls Ahn attempting to flee with infant Ip while lying about Kyung’s child’s death. Ip-boon visits Ahn the next day to inquire about her claim to be his niece. She becomes agitated and tries to flee when he notices she is holding her mom’s wooden pin.
She is terrified as Ahn briefly clutches her. Gye rushes to the attorney general’s office after noticing Ip is absent. He claims that Ahn murdered Kyung to let Ip go. She went to him of her own free will, according to Ahn, and she is better off with him compared to the unfortunate Gye.
