Purchasing a lottery ticket at the last minute is not uncommon, especially with the recent rise in the number of Powerball drawings.
POWERBALL is a thrilling, multi-state, jackpot game with a lot of money up for grabs. It is a creation of the MUSL and is made available in 48 Lottery jurisdictions. In order for jackpots to reach hundreds of millions of dollars, every POWERBALL member Lotteries contribute a portion of sales to a pooled top prize.
The beginning jackpot for the game is the biggest one in the entire world at $20 million. There are nine reward tiers in POWERBALL, with the lowest awards going from $4 to $1 million. With Power Play and Double Play, you can win up to $2 million and $10 million, respectively.
How Do You Play Powerball?
At any Florida Lottery-approved retail location, you can buy POWERBALL tickets. The Florida Lottery mobile app allows players to choose their numbers digitally, on a paper playslip just at a retail location, or by telling the seller the numbers they want to play. In the upper play area of the playslip, choose five numbers starting from 1 to 69, and in the lower play area, choose one Powerball starting from 1 to 26. Additionally, players have the choice to mark the QP box in the top and/or lower play regions of the playslip to request Quick Pick for part or all of their numbers.
Participants can add Double Play for $1 more every play for two shots to win in two drawings. The Double Play rule will be applied to all panels, including Quick Pick choices and Advance Play.
Players can add Power Play for $1 more every play to receive $2 million for striking all five white balls or to increase non-jackpot rewards by 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x (or 10x if somehow the jackpot is much less than $150 million). Just on the left side of the POWERBALL playslip, there is a Power Play box that must be checked in order to add Power Play. All Quick Pick boxes and panels that are marked on the playslip will be affected by Power Play.
How Late Can You Buy Powerball Tickets?
You can buy POWERBALL tickets on drawing evenings up until the time when game sales end, which is 10:00 p.m. ET. Before the POWERBALL drawing at 10:59 p.m. ET, MUSL needs enough time to make sure the draw data has been safely collected from all 48 member lotteries. The POWERBALL draws will take place on a night with a 5-minute sales gap between 10:00 p.m. ET and 10:05 p.m. ET; sales after 10:05 p.m. ET will be available for the following drawing.
Tickets for POWERBALL cost $2 each. Tickets for POWERBALL with Power Play are $3 each. Tickets for POWERBALL with Double Play are $3 each. Tickets for POWERBALL with Double Play and Power Play cost $4 each.
You can watch the most recent draws on your local channel in addition to watching each lottery game live on Powerball’s official website. For instance, the game was televised on Fox 29 in Philadelphia and WABC-7 in New York City. Pick five numbers for the white balls between 1 and 69 to start the game. Next, select a number for the red powerball from 1 to 26. You have the option of choosing the numbers on a play slip or letting the lottery machine choose them at random.
Double Play And Power Play
With the Double Play add-on feature, players can use the same numbers from their POWERBALL ticket to enter a second drawing held after the POWERBALL drawing for an opportunity to win up to $10 million. Tickets for double plays add $1 for each play. 10.
A bonus feature called Power Play gives users the opportunity to multiply their earnings. With Power Play, players can increase other non-jackpot winnings by 2X, 3X, 4X, or 5X in addition to winning $2 million for hitting the five white balls. The announced jackpot will also include a 10X multiplier if it is $150 million or less. Just prior to the draw, the multiplier number will be chosen. Each play in a power play ticket costs an extra $1.
Every play on a POWERBALL ticket will be subject to Power Play. Tickets for Power Play games will read “POWER PLAY YES” and tickets for Power Play-free games will read “POWER PLAY NO.” The $2 million Power Play award will be paid out as a lump sum less any applicable taxes.
Every drawing’s announced POWERBALL jackpot is determined by MUSL. Jackpots are computed using projected sales, money carried over from prior drawings and the current rate of interest for long-term investments. The jackpot pool receives 34.0066% of each $2 ticket sold.
