TLC’s Popular Polygamy show, Sister wives, will be airing the next episode of the new season soon. The show follows the lives of a family with one husband and four wives, along with their 18 children. Kody Brown and his now three wives, Meri, Janelle, and Robyn, are all either connected to or grew up in polygamist families, so the idea was pretty much normal for them.
The first marriage took place between Kody and Meri, and soon the others followed. The show was aired at a time when such series were the hot topic in the Reality TV genre. It began as an inspiring example of how a plural marriage works, but over the years, we’ve seen a great example of all that glitters is not gold.
First aired in September of 2010, Sister wives featured a positive family that was looking forward to an addition of a 4th wife. Robyn and Kody got married once the show had begun. He has a total of 6 children, each with Janelle and Christine, One daughter with Meri, and two biological children with Robyn. Robyn already had three children from her previous marriage. All those children are now old enough to have their own lives.
Sister Wives: A Show on How Plural Families Work
The show, in its earlier years, received a lot of praise for the way the women seemed to be deeply connected despite sharing the same husband. A look into the life of a household with so many people was something the world didn’t get to see much of, and that caused the show to have almost 3 million views when the 1st season premiered.
Kody and Meri both knew that they would want to live a polygamous life once they were married. When they met Janelle through a friend, they felt a connection with her and added her to the family. The same was with Christine, but Christine’s mom was against polygamy at first. This changed when she married Kody’s father, making Christine and her Father-in-law also stepdaughter and stepfather.
The marriages lasted well for a few years, with entertaining family drama and a little bit of jealousy here and there. The problem was that Kody began treating his fourth wife, Robyn, like his only wife. This caused all the others to feel left out and unloved.
They also had to move multiple times to be with Kody and their kids at the same time. Strained marriage ties and dissatisfaction were regular themes in the last few seasons.
Christine divorced Kody Brown in 2021, stating his lack of intimacy and care for her and her children was the last straw for her. They had been married for almost 20 years. Kody reportedly felt regretful about their divorce, but such marriages only last with compatibility and respect for everyone involved. Christine now has her cooking show and feels much better knowing she made the right decision.
The family first lived in Utah, but soon after the show’s first few seasons, they moved to Las Vegas. They all live separately in apartments and RVs but now have decided to divide the lands between themselves.
